The materials contained in this book were originally compiled to be used in conjunction with my online video lessons, live private instructions, drum set clinics, master classes and instrumental lab classes at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Video lessons on the Moeller technique is available at TheDrumSetCoach.Com
This workbook serves as an invaluable, organized and compact resource of advanced hand technique development materials. The book can be used as a tool for introduction and progression of concepts that goes beyond the Moeller Technique.
The main purpose of the book is to provide teachers and students with a complete college level Moeller Technique course that is well organized. It provides exercises, music concepts and musical applications. Each lesson provides homework materials that are tangible and measurable and gradable.
This is a complete one semester program that can guide the students through a progressive path for the development of high level technical facility. The book will introduce the students and teachers to a considerable amount of possibilities to explore using the Moeller Technique musically. The material is well tested over many years and it is proven to work very well. Instructions and exercises were directly inspired by some of the best drummers in the world who are well known Moeller technique exponents: Jim Chapin, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Smith, Dave Weckl, Jojo Mayer, Dom Famularo, Danny Gottlieb, Joe Morello among many others. I encourage all drummers to research and study the teachings and performances of the artists mentioned here.
Many of my students and I are now living proof that by diligently studying the lessons presented here, one will be able to develop not only various Moeller techniques, but also other important aspects of great music performance. This includes the ability to incorporate smooth flowing motions to time keeping, fills and solo ideas. This book also goes beyond the technique. It includes materials related to improve many areas of good musicianship such as: dynamic range, orchestration, coordination, chart reading, concentration, time, time feel, tempo flexibility, solo improvisation, repertoire development, technique, endurance, speed, power while staying relaxed, confidence, among many other areas. This book provides necessary tools that facilitate for creativity to flow and be expressive, musical and hopefully enjoyable.
Have Fun!
